Born in London, Andrew has established a very busy and diverse musical career during the past 25 years. Foremost a classical trumpeter, he has performed as a soloist internationally and in the UK at many major venues and festivals with the English Chamber Orchestra. He has also specialised in contemporary music performance and as a former member of the London Sinfonietta, premiered numerous works and solo pieces, some specifically dedicated, as in the case of Mark Anthony Turnage and Sir Harrison Birtwhistle.
In addition, he is an in demand studio musician who can be heard on hundreds of film scores and recordings, from Joni Mitchells Travelogue album track-Love, to the credited solos in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and The Skin I Live In (composer Alberto Iglesias), the Legend of Bagger Vance by Rachel Portman and the last four 007 movies.
Other notable appearances within different genres of music have included artists such as Quincy Jones, Ornette Coleman and Sir Paul McCartney. In 2010 he appeared in Paris, Berlin, London, Montreal, New York and Los Angeles with Peter Gabriels Scratch Your Back project, as his featured trumpeter with the New Blood Orchestra. This year, 2013, he is giving masterclasses and recitals at various venues: The Juilliard School in New York, WCMD, Cardiff and the Orlando Festival, Kerkrade this August. After a very successful christmas tour with London Brass in Germany in 2012, he will be directing more concerts this coming December, with the brass ensemble and the Hannover Knabenchor.
As a conductor, he has opened the summer series concert with Pictures At An Exhibition at the new Stagione Estiva, Rome, with the brass and percussion of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. He also directed antiphonal music at the 2009 Bath International Music Festival, featuring works by Gabrieli and Birtwhistle. In 2010 he made his debut at the Royal Albert Hall Promenade series, conducting the music of Toru Takemitsu. He appeared this July in Dublin with Bono, conducting an orchestra in honour and in front of the Burmese opposition leader, Aung Sang Suu Kyi.
He teaches at the Royal College of Music and is currently the manager of London Brass.
