Artist's Biography Currently the Principal Trumpet of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (APO), Brent Grapes has performed in orchestras and solo competitions around the world. Born in Perth, Brent completed his initial studies at the University of Western Australia. In 2007, Brent was accepted into The Juilliard School in New York, where he studied with Raymond Mase and Mark Gould. During his time in New York, Brent established himself as both a soloist and orchestral trumpeter, winning first place in the Juilliard School concerto competition in 2007. Brent was also the first person to be awarded first place two years running in the graduate division of the US National Trumpet Competition.
From 2008-2010, Brent was a member of the UBS Verbier Festival Orchestra, and regularly performs with orchestras around the world. Brent has been working with the Auckland Philharmonia since August 2009, and is also the trumpet Artist-Teacher at the University of Auckland.
