Timothy Benge

Artist's Biography
Dr. Tim Benge maintains a very active schedule as a trumpet artist, conductor and educator. Over his thirty-year professional career, Tim has earned numerous performing and recording credits, including two albums of solo trumpet works and a jazz quarter album. He has toured nationally and internationally and performs in symphony orchestras, wind ensembles, big bands and brass ensembles as well as a long list of musicals, shows and recording dates.

In addition, he currently serves as Director of Instrumental Music at Edison High School in Huntington Beach, California. In this position he conducted Edison High Schools Wind Ensemble at a feature performance on the Isaac Stern stage in Carnegie Hall, New York, in May of 2009.

Regarding his development as a player, Tim says, . . . when I was in high school, I was most fortunate to learn that James Stamp, the legendary trumpet teacher, lived but a few miles away. I did not know anything of his reputation. I only knew that he was a very kind gentleman to a raw young kid and that his teaching seemed extraordinary. I felt I was in the presence of a true master of the instrument and of how to teach the instrument. Tim has also studied with Joan LaRue, Robert Rithaler and David Washburn. Each of these teachers gave their students something very unique and outstanding - I am most thankful to all of them.

Dr. Tim Benge seeks to share his passion for high-quality brass performance. Through BengeMusic, he provides summer and weekend workshops to aspiring brass players in the southern California area. He also maintains an active trumpet studio where students can receive expert level instruction in a positive, motivational environment.

His education includes a Bachelors degree in Instrumental Music from California State University, Long Beach, a Masters degree in trumpet performance from the University of Redlands, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Southern California.

Dr. Benge plays Bach trumpets - a model 37 Bb and a model 229/25H C trumpet.
